How to Make Nasi Kuning (The Easy & Tasty Way)

By Team Member 723  •   2 minute read

Get ready to level up your rice game!

This bright yellow, coconut-y, ultra-flavorful dish is a Southeast Asian celebration on a plate—and the best part? We’re making it extra easy with Bamboe Bumbu Untuk Nasi Kuning. Let’s gooo!

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups of jasmine or long-grain white rice
  • 1 pack of Bamboe Bumbu Untuk Nasi Kuning (the real MVP)
  • 400 ml (about 1.5 cups) of coconut milk
  • 200 ml (just under 1 cup) of water
  • Optional but tasty: 1 pandan leaf, 1 stalk lemongrass (bruised), 1 bay leaf

🔥 Let’s Cook:

1. Rinse Your Rice Like a Pro

Give your rice a good rinse until the water runs (mostly) clear. It helps prevent clumpy rice. Nobody wants mushy nasi kuning!

2. Spice It Up

In your rice cooker or pot, add:

  • The rinsed rice
  • 1 full packet of Bamboe Bumbu Untuk Nasi Kuning
  • Coconut milk + water
  • (Optional) Toss in that pandan leaf, lemongrass, and bay leaf for extra fragrance. You fancy.

3. Stir It Real Good

Mix everything together until the spice paste is fully dissolved and the liquid is a golden yellow dream.

4. Cook Like Normal

  • If using a rice cooker: Hit that “cook” button and chill.
  • If using a pot: Bring to a gentle boil, then lower heat, cover, and simmer for ~15-20 mins until all liquid is absorbed.

5. Fluff & Flare

Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and remove the herbs (if used). Inhale deeply. Yep, that’s joy.

Serve It Up!

Nasi kuning is best with:

  • A fried egg on top 🍳
  • Fried chicken or tempeh
  • Spicy sambal
  • Pickled cucumbers or crispy shallots

Boom. You just made nasi kuning like a total kitchen boss.
