Shirasagi No Ito Somen noodles are Japanese dried vermicelli wheat noodles that can be served hot or cold, in a variety of Japanese dishes. Somen are very thin -- less than 1.3 mm in diameter -- and are made from wheat flour. When served cold, typically in the summer, somen are usually served with a light dipping sauce or tsuyu. Hot somen noodle soup dishes are called nyumen and are served in the colder months of the year. Shirisagi somen is beautifully packaged in six individually wrapped bunches, each bunch serving approximately two people. Somen is easy to enjoy: just boil for two minutes, then strain and add your favorite soup stock or Japanese condiments such as ginger, green onion, egg and spices.
